It’s been hard to keep a positive outlook with all the crap going on around us right now. With so many people dying (even if the percentage of loss compared to recovery is somewhat uplifting, it’s still life), it’s scary. Even worse is being in the category that is the most vulnerable with asthma and diabetes and an autoimmune disorder that we haven’t figured out what it is yet. And that isn’t even covering the health care workers who are on the front lines taking care of the ill, some of them my close friends. This whole situation is scary right now, we need a little uplifting fun!
Since I have agoraphobia, I already practice social distancing for the most part. I stay home most of the time, so staying home for me is very easy. I can see how someone who is not used to stay-at-home isolation orders would be going stir crazy right around now. So I thought I would list 20 things that you can do while stuck at home that you probably haven’t thought about.
- Write. You can write in your journals or start writing a fan fiction.
- Watch TV. What are some of your favorite shows? Binge watch them… don’t hog the bandwidth tho! I’m doing the same thing…hahaha Hart of Dixie is my new favorite.
- Catch up on your reading list.
- Spend time with your family. Watch movies with them while keeping a good social distance. One family I read about has a daughter who is in quarantine. To make the best out of a bad and scary situation, they made the most. Her dad sat outside her room at a special table set up as a dinner for two… her Father/Daughter dinner with her dad each night. Him at his table, she in her bed with her meal. It was very sweet.
- Go for a walk. No one said you can’t go for a walk. You need to remain six feet from anyone you come across but that doesn’t mean you can’t go walk around the block or walk in your backyard and enjoy the sun.
- Play a game. I love to play SWTOR when I’m upset or bored…I’m a bit addicted to that game. There’s other games you can play from STO to Call of Duty, to browser games like Wartune.
- Plot the demise of your siblings, but no actually doing it! That would be murder and we don’t advocate that! Tho it is nice to fantasize about it sometimes…mwhaha!
- Build a TP fort with all of that toilet paper you hoarded but wasn’t supposed to and then raid it!
- Have sex…but practice social distancing and don’t forget the full body condom… don’t forget the air holes either because damn…
- Throw pencils at the ceiling in the shape of a unicorn.
- Research unicorns.
- Watch “How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days” and then practice. No really, don’t do that… but it is a good movie.
- Watch all pandemic movies and then lean out the window and scream, “OMG! Zombies are coming!” No don’t do that… that might cause a riot! But watching pandemic movies is a lot of fun and most of them win! So score! Examples: World War Z, Outbreak, The Stand (shivers), 30 Days of Night.
- Finally shave them legs, girls! Its time… 😛
- Put on your favorite music and dance it out! (Grey’s Anatomy reference…which leads to 16)
- Watch all 16 seasons of Grey’s Anatomy and go “DAMN! That on-call room gets a lot of action!”
- Put on your favorite PJ’s, grab that bottle of wine and watch Bridget Jones Diaries on surround sound until your neighbors bang down your walls and beg for mercy! “All by myself! Don’t wanna beeeeee! All by myself! Anymore!” Anyone else “hear” Renee Zellweger singing that? I know I did!
- Open up all your windows and let in the fresh air. Then make a pillow fort on the floor with a snack and pretend you’re on the beach somewhere. You might be quarantined, but your imagination isn’t!
- Record a silly video and send it to all your friends. Challenge them not to laugh, laughter is contagious, which is the only thing we should be willing to spread right now!
- I lost count so you’re stuck with only 19! Leave a comment with your 20 things…:P lol
“Keep Calm and Carry On” is an old saying that originated in the U.K. during World War II that is inspiring to me. It’s the epitome of keeping a “stiff upper lip” and doing what must be done. Right now, we stay home to slow this thing and to try to turn the curve. Have fun while you’re home. Do something fun you have been meaning to do but never got around to… What we can’t do is panic. Even with all the fear welling up and listening to the people on the media channels make it sound like we’re all going to die, we have to lift our heads up, straighten our backs and stay sane.
Thank you for everyone who is making an effort to protect people like me. Thank you to all the health care workers who are out there right now, working and scared. Thank you for my family and friends who understand and try to keep me sane (which is kind of hard to do cuz you know it’s me! Kidding!). Keep practicing social distancing, wash your hands, don’t leave the house if you are ill, be kind to others and remember you are not alone in this! Stay safe, Adventurites! Peace out! ~LA
