Years ago I watched a movie called Letters to Juliet staring Amanda Seyfried as young woman who goes to Verona with her fiance for a pre-honeymoon and discovers the Juliet’s Secretaries who spends their free time writing responses to letters left for Juliet (from Shakespeare’s play Romeo and Juliet). To make a long story short (watch the movie), she finds a “Dear Juliet” letter written by Claire and responds to it. I always thought this was a fictional story but it turns out the story is based on some truth! According to their website they have different ways you can send your own “Dear Juliet” letter…email, snail mail, or by hand. Check it out.
When working on my current piece, I was thinking about romance, Valentines being just around the corner and this scene reminded me of the movie for some reason. I wasn’t thinking about chocolates or anything, but romance. I imagined what I would like and it evolved to what you see here. There is a lot in this composition from heart shaped balloons from The Green Door to a pretty potted tree from The Little Branch. Then there’s special candles from Go Frock Yourself. Finally pulling the whole scene together is the gacha machine from MOoH! turned headboard behind the bed.
