Today, I bring you this sweet scene in my garden. Look at the butterfly! LOOOOK! I love butterflies. They are so diverse and each one is unique…kind of like photography. There are many different styles and each photographer is unique in their own way…. including Virtual Photographers!
I’ve seen so many discussions on Flickr lately about how virtual photography is not “photography.” Some people say that “real world” photography is different from VR photography. Some actually make it a point to mention Second Life photography forgetting that the same techniques used in the real world have been used in the virtual worlds, especially SL. I consider this photography style another type of photography like street photography, portrait photography, architecture photography, and wildlife photography, just to name a few.
Virtual Photographers use the same techniques that so-called real photographers do when setting up a scene, lighting and more. Put it down all you want but virtual photography has started to rival some of the “real world” photographers from studio photography to street photography. As with all forms of photography, there is a skill that you develop over time going from creating basic snapshots to creating the photo seen in this post!
In the end, it doesn’t really matter and really boils down to jealousy from mediocre and amateur so-called “real” photographers. Second Life is meant to be a creative outlet for people where you can create and/or be part of a community that can consist of people from all over the world. SL, to me, is an outlet. It’s a place where I can be as creative as I want, experience new things that I wouldn’t otherwise experience and spend time with people I consider family and friends. Anyway, stepping off my soap box now and going back to my “fake” photography! *kidding*
